Changing light bulbs, retrieving stock from high shelves and putting up decorations are all common tasks that involve working at height. Under the Work at Height Regulations 2005 (amended 2007), employers must ensure all such work is safely planned and supervised.
List all activities that involve working above ground level and group similar low-risk tasks together, but carry out separate assessments for higher-risk or unusual activities. Step ladders, kick stools and mobile platforms all carry different levels of risk, so assess whether the equipment is suitable, in good condition and being used correctly.
Lighting, floor surfaces, nearby obstacles and weather conditions for outdoor work all affect safety and should be checked before each task. Identify any gaps in your current controls and describe the additional steps you will take, including training, equipment upgrades or changes to how tasks are carried out.
See how working at height risk assessments fit into your wider health and safety management system in Pilla. We walk through how to build this into your system so that your team has clear processes, accountability, and a documented trail that proves compliance.
Learn how AI can speed up this process and connect Pilla to your other tools, giving you a much more joined up system across your business.
