Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers must establish clear lines of responsibility for health and safety. A responsibility chart assigns specific duties to roles within the business so everyone knows their part in keeping the workplace safe.
A structured chart ensures accountability, good health and safety management, and compliance with the law. By using job roles rather than individual names, the chart remains consistent when personnel change. The chart should cover all safety arrangements including first aid, accident reporting, training, fire equipment, PPE, consultation, housekeeping, chemicals, manual handling, contractors, and many more operational areas.
