Join Liam Jones, founder of Pilla and a qualified food safety consultant, for a session on lone working.
Employers must ensure the welfare, safety, and health of employees at all times, including when they work alone or outside normal working hours. Lone working will be avoided where reasonably practicable, but where it cannot be avoided, suitable controls must be in place.
Lone working includes any situation where an employee works without colleagues immediately available. This may include opening or closing shifts, working in isolated areas, or tasks performed outside normal hours. Risk assessments must specifically consider the additional hazards of working alone, including inability to summon help in an emergency, increased vulnerability to violence, and tasks that should not be performed alone.
Controls may include check-in procedures, communication systems, restricted task lists, and arrangements for regular contact. Ongoing monitoring ensures that lone working procedures are followed and remain effective, and arrangements should be reviewed when circumstances change or incidents occur.
See how lone working fits into your wider health and safety management system in Pilla. We walk through how to build this into your system so that your team has clear processes, accountability, and a documented trail that proves compliance.
Learn how AI can speed up this process and connect Pilla to your other tools, giving you a much more joined up system across your business.
