Understand
The health and safety policy statement is the foundation of your entire safety management system. It is a legal requirement under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and represents your formal commitment to protecting your team and the public.
Every employer must establish and maintain a health and safety policy including a written statement of their approach. The statement must be brought to the attention of all employees, reviewed regularly, and updated to reflect changes in the business or legislation. The policy is a two-way commitment: the company provides safe systems, training, equipment, and a safe working environment, while employees must cooperate, follow procedures, and take reasonable care of themselves and others.
Responsible Persons identified on the Health and Safety Organisational Chart accept responsibility for implementing, monitoring, and maintaining the policy. The policy must be reviewed at least annually, or when there is a significant change within the company or in relevant legislation.
