Join Liam Jones, founder of Pilla and a qualified food safety consultant, for a session on electrical safety.
Electricity can kill or severely injure people and cause damage to property. Employers have a duty to take precautions when working with or near electricity and electrical equipment to significantly reduce the risk of injury.
Staff must be trained to conduct pre-use visual checks on electrical equipment, looking for warning signs such as damaged cables, cracked plugs, burn marks, or loose connections. Damaged equipment must be removed from service immediately. Electrical installations and portable appliances require regular testing by competent persons, with fixed wiring inspected periodically and portable appliance testing (PAT) ensuring equipment remains safe throughout its life.
Equipment must be suitable for the environment it is used in and sourced from reputable suppliers. Damaged or faulty equipment must never be used. Staff should report issues immediately, label or isolate the equipment, and ensure no one else uses it until it has been repaired or replaced by a competent person.
See how electrical safety fits into your wider health and safety management system in Pilla. We walk through how to build this into your system so that your team has clear processes, accountability, and a documented trail that proves compliance.
Learn how AI can speed up this process and connect Pilla to your other tools, giving you a much more joined up system across your business.
