Join Liam Jones, founder of Pilla and a qualified food safety consultant, for a session on display screen equipment.
Display screen equipment is used extensively in modern workplaces, and employers have a responsibility to safeguard employee health and welfare when using this equipment. The DSE Regulations 1992 set out specific requirements for managing these risks.
Prolonged DSE work carries genuine health risks including musculoskeletal problems, eye strain and fatigue, and stress. Employees must complete workstation self-assessments to identify and address ergonomic issues, covering chair height, screen position, keyboard placement, lighting, and other environmental factors.
Identified DSE users are entitled to eye and eyesight tests. Employers must also plan breaks or activity changes to reduce continuous screen work and prevent fatigue. Not everyone who uses a screen is classified as a DSE user; identifying users based on frequency and duration of use determines who needs full assessment and provision.
See how display screen equipment fits into your wider health and safety management system in Pilla. We walk through how to build this into your system so that your team has clear processes, accountability, and a documented trail that proves compliance.
