Learn about accident reporting requirements, and how to build them into your health and safety system with Pilla and AI.
Join Liam Jones, founder of Pilla and a qualified food safety consultant, for a session on accident reporting.
Accident reporting is a legal requirement under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR). Proper reporting protects both employees and the organisation legally, and helps identify patterns to prevent future incidents.
Certain accidents, injuries, diseases, and dangerous occurrences must be reported to the enforcing authority. This includes fatalities, specified injuries, over-7-day incapacitation injuries, and reportable diseases. All accidents and near misses should be reported internally through your established procedures, recorded in the accident book, and investigated to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
RIDDOR reports must be made within specified timeframes depending on the type of incident. Fatal and specified injuries must be reported immediately, while over-7-day injuries must be reported within 15 days. Detailed records of all incidents must be maintained and kept for at least three years.
See how accident reporting fits into your wider health and safety management system in Pilla. We walk through how to build this into your system so that your team has clear processes, accountability, and a documented trail that proves compliance.
