Opterus vs Ocasta (2026): HQ messages, planograms and merch reviews, or comms, knowledge and scored checks
I wrote this because I keep getting asked how Opterus and Ocasta compare. I ran restaurants for years. I know the job: you want the floor to do the work without you chasing every check.
Opterus sells OPSCENTER, a retail operations and communication platform. HQ sends targeted messages with read receipts, assigns multi-step tasks, and ships planograms with photo merch reviews. You can add audits, tickets, documents, tests, dashboards and store scheduling. Associates work in the OPSCENTER app on a phone, tablet or the web app.
Ocasta is a frontline operations platform. Five hubs snap together or run solo: comms and tasks, knowledge and learning, inspections and checklists, new starter, and observations and coaching. You read targeted news, search knowledge, complete scored reviews and pick up tasks in one branded iOS, Android and web app. AI on their live pages is search answers, a writing assistant and generated learning questions. They unified Engage and Review into one app and one web experience in early 2026.
I built Pilla so you can turn a process you already know into a workflow on a canvas. Your team runs it on a phone, tablet or the web app. Pilla can fetch, decide and act while the work is happening. You keep the judgement calls.
If you want to try it on a process you already run, open the canvas.
I would keep Opterus when I want HQ-to-store comms, tasks and merch execution from one vendor. I would keep Ocasta when I want comms, knowledge, scored checks and coaching in one branded app. I would pick Pilla when I want AI to act inside the work.
How did we compare them?
I ask the same twelve questions on every comparison. For Opterus I went back to their product pages, first-party press PDFs and app listings. They do not publish a public help centre. For Ocasta I went back to their product pages and help. I read those public docs on 16 September 2026. Where they stay quiet, I stay quiet.
I am Liam Jones. I founded Pilla after more than ten years running hospitality operations, food safety and frontline teams. On 16 September 2026 I sat with Opterus's current public pages: Task Manager, Message Center, Chat and Newsfeeds, Visual Merch Reviews, Planograms, Audits, Dashboards, OpsEngine, Meet OPS Assistant, Where Opterus Shines, the OPSCENTER 26.1 PDF and the App Store listings. There is no public help centre. I then sat with Ocasta's current help: insight types, review templates, photo proof, tasks, news and comments, review analytics, the five hub pages, pricing and demo, and the update on Ocasta Answer. I have not lived in a paid Opterus or Ocasta account for this write-up. I am telling you what their docs say.

Opterus sells HQ-to-store comms and store execution. Ocasta sells a frontline operations platform with five hubs. They overlap on store comms, tasks and photo proof. They split on planograms and merch reviews versus knowledge, observations and new-starter. I built Pilla for a different job: AI acting inside the run.
What is Opterus, and when should you keep it?
Opterus holds HQ messages, tasks and store execution in OPSCENTER. You prove a message was read with receipts. You prove a task was done with photos and files. You ship planograms, collect merch photos, raise tickets and auto-open corrective tasks. You can add audits, documents, tests, dashboards and store scheduling. Associates work in the OPSCENTER app on a phone, tablet or the web app.
I would keep Opterus if I needed HQ-to-store comms, tasks, planograms and merch reviews from one vendor. That suite is a fair reason to stay.
Price: No public software price. Sales quote.
Trial: Demo and a custom trial setup in a few days. No advertised self-serve trial.
Why people stay on Opterus
- HQ messages with read receipts in one associate app
- Planograms and merch photo reviews
- Person-to-person and group chat
- Audits that open corrective tasks
- All-inclusive quote with no extra user fees claimed
Why people look
- No public software price
- I could not find an AI step inside a task
- I could not find a public help centre
- I could not find video, audio or signatures as capture types
- I could not find a public API reference
What is Ocasta, and when should you keep it?
Ocasta holds comms, knowledge, scored inspections, observations and new-starter in one branded app. You prove the work with scores, geotagged photos and required insights. You raise a human task when something fails. You coach against an ideal journey. You can add kudos, optional rewards and Boost games. They unified Engage and Review into one app and one web experience in early 2026.
I would keep Ocasta if I needed comms, knowledge, scored inspections, observations and new-starter from one vendor. That suite is a fair reason to stay.

When is Pilla the third option?
If the job is HQ messages, planograms and merch reviews, keep Opterus. If the job is comms, knowledge, scored inspections and new-starter, keep Ocasta. I built Pilla for a different job. You draw the process on a canvas. The team runs it on a phone, tablet or the web app. Pilla checks the work as it comes in and follows up when something needs you. I did not build shift scheduling, payroll, HR, planograms, a newsfeed or an LMS. If you need those, keep them on Opterus, Ocasta or another vendor. You can open Pilla the same day. Starter is £49 a month with 500 processed workflows. Pro is £99 with 1,000, and adds AI automations inside Pilla. Every new account gets a 14-day trial of every Pro feature, with no card. People are unlimited.

Which should you pick?
I would keep Opterus if I needed HQ-to-store comms, tasks, planograms and merch reviews from one vendor. I would keep Ocasta if I needed comms, knowledge, scored inspections, observations and new-starter from one vendor. If I wanted the work drawn on a canvas and AI acting inside the run, with DMs and MCP, I would use Pilla, and I would keep HQ comms, planograms, the newsfeed, LMS, kudos and Boost somewhere else.
Frequently asked questions
Is Opterus the same as Ocasta?
No. They overlap on store comms, tasks and photo proof. Opterus is built around HQ messages with receipts, planograms and merch reviews, plus person-to-person and group chat. Ocasta is built around comms, knowledge, scored inspections, observations and new-starter, and they quote you per hub.
Did Ocasta unify Engage and Review?
Yes. They unified Engage and Review into one app and one web experience in early 2026. You still search for Ocasta.
How much do Opterus and Ocasta cost?
Both quote you. I could not find a public software price for either. Opterus markets all-inclusive pricing with no extra fees for users, dashboards or reporting. Ocasta prices per site or per employee, per hub, and they email a price within 24 hours. Implementation fees are waived throughout 2026. Pilla is Starter at £49 a month with 500 processed workflows, and Pro at £99 with 1,000. People are unlimited.
Does Opterus or Ocasta have AI inside the work?
I could not find an AI step inside an Opterus task or an Ocasta review. Opterus AI on live pages is OPS Assistant, which answers from policies and helps write templates, and GraphQL so a retailer's own AI can pull reports. Ocasta AI on live pages is Ocasta Answer in search, a writing assistant and generated learning questions.
Can staff chat in Opterus and Ocasta?
Opterus Chat and Newsfeeds has person-to-person and group chats plus company news feeds. Message Center is HQ-to-store updates with targeting, two-way replies and mandatory read receipts. Ocasta Comms sends targeted news, alerts, banners and a calendar, often with comments and reactions. People reply on news comments and on task comments. I could not find DMs or group channels on Ocasta.
What evidence can they capture?
Opterus live pages document photos and files on tasks and audits. I could not find video, audio, signatures, ratings or a stored location field as capture types. Ocasta help lists Yes/No, Vibe, dropdown, units, text, numbers, KPI, percentage, person picker, signature and checkbox, plus photos you can annotate, timestamp and geotag. A product update adds Date and Time. I could not find video, audio or a file-upload field as a review insight.
Where does Pilla fit if I am comparing Opterus and Ocasta?
I would pick Pilla if I wanted the floor to follow a process, with the work checked as it comes in. I would not switch expecting Pilla to take over HQ messages, planograms, a newsfeed, LMS, kudos or Boost. The deep tables live on Pilla vs Opterus and Pilla vs Ocasta.
Where did these facts come from?
Opterus and Ocasta claims on this page come from their own public docs. Pilla claims come from the current product.
