WorkJam vs Skedulo (2026): one app for shift staff on the workforce system you already run, or field dispatch and scheduling
I am Liam Jones. I founded Pilla after more than ten years running hospitality operations, food safety and frontline teams.
I wrote this because I keep getting asked how WorkJam and Skedulo compare. I ran restaurants for years. I know the job: you want the floor to do the work without you chasing every check.
WorkJam sits on top of HRIS and WFM. Associates get one app for comms, tasks, audits, learning, shift self-service and an AI agent, including DMs and rooms. HQ targets work by role, shift and certification. The floor proves it with photos, video and e-signatures. Their AI assigns, flags and follows up inside that layer.
You plan jobs and shifts in Skedulo's web app with calendars, maps, swimlanes and Gantt. An optimisation engine, still marketed as MasterMind and as a Scheduling Agent, assigns the right person given skills, travel, SLAs and availability. Field staff run the day in Skedulo Plus on a phone or tablet: accept work, navigate, fill forms, capture photos and signatures, and check off job tasks. You can add DMs and channels if you buy Dynamic Messaging.
I built Pilla so you can turn a process you already know into a workflow on a canvas. Your team runs it on a phone, tablet or the web app. Pilla can fetch, decide and act while the work is happening. You keep the judgement calls.
If you want to try it on a process you already run, open the canvas.
Quick Summary
I would pick WorkJam when I want one app for the people on shift, sitting on the workforce system you already run, with messages in the same place. I would pick Skedulo when I want someone to assign the field jobs and the shifts, and the person in the field to run them on a phone. I would pick Pilla when I want AI to act inside the work.
- I would pick WorkJam if I needed one app for the people on shift, on the workforce system you already run, with messages in the same place
- I would pick Skedulo if I needed someone to assign the field jobs and the shifts, and the person in the field to run them on a phone
- I would pick Pilla if I wanted a process I already know drawn on a canvas, with branching
- I would pick Pilla if I wanted unlimited people on that work, billed on processed workflows
How did we compare them?
I ask the same twelve questions on every comparison. I used WorkJam's product pages, the 2026 overview, Frontline Connect pricing and public help, and Skedulo's Form Builder, job templates, Skedulo Plus, Dynamic Messaging, the AI agents page and pricing. I used their public docs, and I have not used a paid account. I could not find the admin task builder in public WorkJam help. Where they stay quiet, I stay quiet.

What is WorkJam, and when should you pick it?
WorkJam holds comms, tasks, audits, learning and shift self-service in one associate app. It sits on top of the workforce system you already run. HQ targets work by role, shift and certification. You prove brand and safety work with photos, video and e-signatures. Failed audits open corrective tasks and training. Their AI assigns, flags and follows up inside that layer.
I would pick WorkJam if I needed one app for the people on shift, on the workforce system you already run, with messages in the same place. That suite is a fair reason to stay.
Price: US Essential $799 a month billed annually, up to 500 users. Operations Elite 500 $1,599. Elite 1000 $2,499. Productivity Plus for tasks, audits and forms is $999 or $1,599 a month on Elite. Above 1,000 users is a quote.
Trial: Demo. I could not find a general self-serve trial. UKG FastTrack is a 60-day pilot for qualifying UKG Pro WFM customers.

What is Skedulo, and when should you pick it?
Skedulo holds field jobs and shifts on a scheduling board. You plan in the web app with calendars, maps, swimlanes and Gantt. An optimisation engine, still marketed as MasterMind and as a Scheduling Agent, assigns the right person given skills, travel, SLAs and availability. Field staff run the day in Skedulo Plus: accept work, navigate, fill forms, capture photos and signatures, and check off job tasks. You can add DMs and channels if you buy Dynamic Messaging.
I would pick Skedulo if I needed someone to assign the field jobs and the shifts, and the person in the field to run them on a phone. That scheduling suite is a fair reason to stay.

When is Pilla the third option?
If the job is one app for the people on shift, on the workforce system you already run, with messages, tasks, audits and shift self-service, pick WorkJam. If the job is assigning field jobs and shifts, pick Skedulo. I built Pilla for a different job. You draw the process on a canvas. The team runs it on a phone, tablet or the web app. Pilla checks the work as it comes in and follows up when something needs you. I did not build shift scheduling, payroll, HR, a shift marketplace, punch, dispatch or route optimisation. If you need those, keep them on WorkJam, Skedulo or another vendor. You can open Pilla the same day. Pay as you go is £199 a month with 1,500 processed workflows included, then 15p each. Enterprise is from £25k a year. Talk to us to get set up. People are unlimited.

Which should you pick?
I would pick WorkJam if I needed one app for the people on shift, on the workforce system you already run, with messages in the same place. I would pick Skedulo if I needed someone to assign the field jobs and the shifts. If I wanted the work drawn on a canvas and AI acting inside the run, with direct messages and MCP, I would use Pilla, and I would keep the roster, punch, dispatch and rotas somewhere else.
Frequently asked questions
Is WorkJam the same as Skedulo?
No. They overlap on an associate app, tasks and photo proof. WorkJam is one app for the people on shift, on the workforce system you already run, with messages, audits, learning and a shift marketplace. Skedulo is someone assigning the jobs and the person in the field finishing them. WorkJam publishes Frontline Connect prices. Skedulo quotes you.
Does WorkJam replace UKG or Workday?
No. WorkJam markets itself as the layer on top of the HR and workforce systems you already run. It sits on those systems. It does not replace them. Skedulo is often the mobile dispatch layer on Salesforce or another system of record. I did not build Pilla to replace those either.
Do WorkJam and Skedulo put AI inside the work?
They put the AI in different places. WorkJam has an AI Agent, built with Google Gemini, for answers and actions such as shift swaps. AI can assign tasks, flag exceptions, enforce SOPs and, since July 2026, autonomously prioritise and confirm work. Photo, video and e-signature proof still check the floor. I could not find a canvas step for AI fetch, decision or action. On Skedulo, checking is a required field, validation and a job task. Their marketing names four agents: Scheduling, Admin, Mobile and Developer. The optimiser decides who is sent. I could not find an AI step inside the worker's job.
Can staff chat in WorkJam and Skedulo?
WorkJam help lets you open a direct message or a new room on iOS, Android and the web app. They also have channels, live streams, surveys and targeted broadcasts. Skedulo Dynamic Messaging is DMs and channels, sold as a paid add-on. Without it, people get push and SMS dispatch, plus optional broadcasts.
How much do WorkJam and Skedulo cost?
Frontline Connect publishes US and AU cards with user caps. US Essential is $799 a month billed annually, up to 500 users. Tasks, audits and forms are Productivity Plus on Elite. Larger enterprise is quote. Skedulo quotes you. I could not find a public software price. Seats are per user on a one-year minimum, with separate scheduler and mobile-worker seats, and no monthly billing. Pilla is Pay as you go at £199 a month with 1,500 processed workflows included, then 15p each. Enterprise is from £25k a year. People are unlimited.
Where does Pilla fit if I am comparing WorkJam and Skedulo?
I would pick Pilla if I wanted the floor to follow a process, with the work checked as it comes in. I would not switch expecting Pilla to take over a shift marketplace, punch, earned wages, dispatch, rotas or routing. The deep tables live on Pilla vs WorkJam and Pilla vs Skedulo.
