Pilla vs Tango (2026): AI that acts inside the work, or click-to-SOP capture and in-app guidance
I wrote this because I keep getting asked whether Pilla replaces Tango. I ran restaurants for years. I know the job: you want the floor to do the work without you chasing every check.
You still start at tango.us. That homepage now sends you to tango.ai, and you log in at app.tango.us. You capture a software process as a screenshot how-to, share it as a link, an embed or a PDF, and walk someone through the clicks with Guide Me. On Enterprise you can pin Nuggets on the screen, branch a guide, and turn the same capture into a supervised browser agent.
I built Pilla so you can turn a process you already know into a workflow on a canvas. Your team runs it on a phone, tablet or the web app. Pilla can fetch, decide and act while the work is happening. You keep the judgement calls.
If you want to try it on a process you already run, open the canvas.
I would pick Pilla when I want AI to act inside the work. I would pick Tango when I want click-to-SOP capture, Guide Me and browser agents.
How did we compare them?
I ask the same twelve questions on every comparison. For Pilla I describe what the product does today. For Tango I went back to their help and product pages on 16 September 2026. Where they stay quiet, I stay quiet.
I am Liam Jones. I founded Pilla after more than ten years running hospitality operations, food safety and frontline teams. On 16 September 2026 I sat with Tango's current help: how to use Tango for documentation, Guide Me, branching, comments, the AI agent, MCP, billing, the mobile-app article and the live pricing page. I have not lived in a paid Tango account for this write-up. I am telling you what their docs say.
What should you take away?
- I would pick Pilla if I wanted the floor to follow the process without me chasing every check
- I would pick Pilla if I wanted the work checked as it comes in, and followed up when something needs me
- I would keep Tango if I needed click-to-SOP capture, Guide Me overlays and browser agents
- I would not switch expecting Pilla to take over screenshot SOPs, in-app walkthroughs or CRM-clicking agents

I built Pilla for AI work management on the floor. Tango sells how-to SOP capture and in-app software guidance.
Why do people like Pilla?
You open Pilla on the phone you already carry. You see the next step, read how to do it, take the photo or sign, and move on. The record lands while you work. Pilla checks it against the rules you set and follows up when something needs you.
I hear the same thing from managers: they draw the process once and stop asking all day whether it happened. The team likes it because they can see what good looks like before they start.
“Pilla helps me have a day off knowing that procedures will be followed”
Charles, owner of 11 hospitality sites
When does switching from Tango to Pilla make sense?
- You want Pilla to check the work as it comes in
- You want to draw the process on a canvas and branch it
- You want a photo, a video or a file sitting on the step itself
- You want DMs and group chats next to the work
- You want a public API and MCP server
- You are happy to keep click-to-SOP capture, Guide Me and browser agents somewhere else
What do you pay for?
| Capability | Pilla | Tango |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | Unlimited users, usage based on workflows | Per-seat Pro; Enterprise quoted |
| Public price | Starter is £49 a month for 500 processed workflows. Pro is £99 a month for 1,000. | Free $0. Pro $22 per user per month billed yearly for 1 to 2 users, $15 for 3 or more. Enterprise quote. Browser Agents from $12.5k a year. |
| Trial | 14-day free trial of every Pro feature, with no card | Free forever, no card. I could not find a numbered Pro trial. |
Tango publishes Free and Pro. Free is $0 forever, no card, with 5 Team Library workflows and 10 users. Pro is per paid seat for every workspace member: $22 per user per month billed yearly for 1 to 2 users, or $15 for 3 or more. Monthly billing is $26 and $20. Enterprise is a custom platform fee based on users supported. Browser Agents are marketed from $12,500 a year for teams of 20 or more. Guests can view for free, with 3 Guide Me trials. I could not find a numbered Pro trial. Browser Agent trials go through sales. I have left third-party dollar figures off this page.
How long does setup take, and how hard is it?
You can open Pilla the same day. Every new account gets a 14-day trial of Pro, with no card. I usually see a first opening or closing workflow take an afternoon. Tango starts with a Free plan, no card. A first how-to can go live the same day if you capture it in Chrome or Edge. Pins, SSO, translation and browser agents take an Enterprise rollout.
If you move, you rebuild the how-tos on the canvas. Viewer history stays in Tango unless you export it by hand. Run both for a while. Keep click-to-SOP capture, Guide Me overlays and browser agents on Tango or another vendor. I did not build Pilla as a screenshot SOP recorder, or to do shift scheduling, payroll or HR.
Does the answer change by budget or size?
If you only need a process on a canvas and you want to try something today, start with Pilla. If you need click-to-SOP capture and Guide Me inside the software people already use, stay with Tango. If money is tight, I publish prices. Tango does too, and Free is $0. If you want AI in the run, a phone app and DMs, I would pick Pilla even in a small team.
What is each one used for?
Tango works well for
- Record a Salesforce, Workday, NetSuite or Epic click path as an SOP
- Replace a training deck or a call with a Tango link
- Guide Me a new hire through a web process on their own screen
- Pin a Nugget on a field so the answer sits on the form
- Embed the same guide in Confluence, Notion, Guru, SharePoint or Zendesk
- Generate a narrated video embed from the guide
- Translate or branch a how-to on Enterprise
- Let an Enterprise agent extract a PDF or transcript and fill the CRM
Pilla works well for
- Opening and closing the team can follow on their phone
- Showing someone how to do a step with writing, a photo or a video
- Collecting photos, video, audio, files and signatures as the work happens
- Letting AI fetch, decide and act while the run is live
- Following up yourself, or letting Pilla follow up
- Talking in DMs and group chats next to the work
- Connecting other software through MCP, API and integrations
- Paying for workflows with as many people as you need
What is Tango designed to do?
Tango captures a software process as a screenshot how-to. You share it as a link, embed or PDF. You walk someone through the clicks with Guide Me. You pin answers on the button where people get stuck. On Enterprise, you automate the repetitive clicks and keep a human on the decisions. I would stay on Tango for that documentation and digital-adoption suite.
What is Pilla designed to do?
I built Pilla so you can turn the processes you already know into workflows on a canvas. Your team follows them on a phone, tablet or the web app. Pilla checks completed work and handles the follow-up you configured. You keep judgement, coaching and the awkward calls. I left shift scheduling, payroll and HR out on purpose.
What differences actually matter?
How do they check the work?
On Pilla I put AI fetching, decisions and actions in the run. On Tango, Guide Me checks whether the right element was clicked. Enterprise agents extract values, fill fields and apply rules in the browser. I could not find an AI step inside a deskless floor run.
How do you design the work?
On Pilla you draw a visual canvas with branching and reuse the workflow. On Tango you capture a linear step list by clicking through the live app, then edit titles and callouts. Branching is Enterprise decision points in Guide Me. I could not find a node canvas.
How do you run the work?
On Pilla the team runs the work on a phone, tablet or the web app. Tango capture and Guide Me run in Chrome or Edge. There is a Pro desktop app for non-browser software, but those captures do not run Guide Me. I could not find a phone or tablet app. Viewing a Tango in mobile web is supported.
How do you capture evidence?
On Pilla you sit photos, video, audio, signatures and location on the step. On Tango, Guide Me stores who viewed, which steps they completed, and comments. I could not find photo, video, audio, signature, rating, number, date or GPS fields on a how-to run.
How does the team talk?
On Pilla you get DMs and group chats, including on a workflow. Tango viewers comment on Guide Me steps and leave emoji. Enterprise Nuggets can be replied to on a pin. I could not find DMs or group chat rooms.
What are you paying for?
On Pilla you pay for processed workflows, with unlimited people, and you get a 14-day trial of every Pro feature with no card. Tango bills Pro per seat. Free is $0 with 5 shared workflows and 10 users. Enterprise is a quote.
Which should you pick?
If I needed click-to-SOP capture, Guide Me inside Salesforce or Workday, and a supervised browser agent, I would keep Tango. That documentation and digital-adoption suite is a fair reason to stay. If I wanted the work drawn on a canvas and AI acting inside the run, with DMs and MCP, I would use Pilla, and I would keep software how-to overlays somewhere else.
Frequently asked questions
Is Tango still at tango.us?
Yes. tango.us still works, and in September 2026 it sends you to tango.ai. You log in at app.tango.us. Help lives at help.tango.ai. Capture is a Chrome or Edge extension, plus a Pro and Enterprise desktop app.
Does Tango have AI inside the work the way Pilla does?
Tango uses AI to write step text, transcribe voice, narrate video embeds, translate how-tos and, on Enterprise Automation, extract data, fill fields and apply rules in the browser. Guide Me checking is whether the right element was clicked. I could not find an AI fetch, decision or action step inside a deskless floor run.
Can staff chat in Tango the way they would in Pilla?
Viewers comment on Guide Me steps and leave emoji. Enterprise Nuggets can be replied to on a pin. I could not find DMs or group chat rooms.
What evidence can a Tango run capture?
Guide Me stores who viewed, which steps they completed and comments. Enterprise agents can take a PDF upload to extract values. I could not find photo, video, audio, signature, rating, number, date or GPS fields on a how-to step.
How much does Tango cost compared to Pilla?
Tango publishes prices. Free is $0 with 5 shared workflows and 10 users. Pro is $22 per user per month billed yearly for 1 to 2 users, or $15 for 3 or more. Enterprise is a quote. Browser Agents are marketed from $12,500 a year for 20 or more users. I do not charge per person. Starter is £49 a month with 500 processed workflows included. Pro is £99 a month with 1,000 included, and adds AI automations inside Pilla. Every new account gets a 14-day trial of every Pro feature, with no card.
Does Tango run on a phone?
There is no mobile app and no capture on phone or tablet. A Tango can be viewed in mobile web. Capture and Guide Me are desktop Chrome or Edge.
Does Tango have an MCP server or API?
Help says MCP is not yet publicly available. I could not find public REST API docs. Connection is embed, paste, the browser extension, and Enterprise SSO and SCIM.
Does switching to Pilla replace Tango click-to-SOP, Guide Me and browser agents?
No. I did not build Pilla as a screenshot SOP recorder or a digital adoption overlay. If you need Guide Me inside Salesforce or a CRM-clicking agent, keep those on Tango or another product.
How long does it take to switch from Tango to Pilla?
You rebuild the how-tos on the canvas. A first workflow usually takes an afternoon. Running both side by side can take days or a couple of weeks, depending on how many guides you have. Viewer history stays in Tango unless you move it by hand.
How did you compare Pilla and Tango?
I read Tango public docs on 16 September 2026 and answered the same twelve questions I use on every comparison. I described Pilla as it works today. I left out anything Tango does not publish.
Where did these facts come from?
Tango claims on this page come from their own public docs. Pilla claims come from the current product.
