Pilla vs Storecall (2026): AI that acts inside the work, or inspection-grade audits with linked follow-up
I wrote this because I keep getting asked whether Pilla replaces Storecall. I ran restaurants for years. I know the job: you want the floor to do the work without you chasing every check.
Storecall is an inspection-grade operations platform rooted in South Africa. You build scored field audits with photo, geotag and signature evidence, then chain corrective workflows, approvals and pivot reporting across locations. Nova AI summarises submissions and flags anomalies after capture. You can add asset management and scheduling.
I built Pilla so you can turn a process you already know into a workflow on a canvas. Your team runs it on a phone, tablet or the web app. Pilla can fetch, decide and act while the work is happening. You keep the judgement calls.
If you want to try it on a process you already run, open the canvas.
Quick Summary
I would pick Pilla when I want AI to act inside the work on a canvas. I would keep Storecall when I want scored field audits with linked corrective workflows, assets and pivot reporting.
- I would pick Pilla if I wanted a process I already know drawn on a canvas, with branching, not scored inspection templates
- I would pick Pilla if I wanted AI to fetch, decide and act inside the run, not Nova summaries and anomaly detection after capture
- I would keep Storecall if I needed scored field audits with linked corrective workflows, approvals, assets and pivot reporting across locations
- I would not switch expecting Pilla to take over scored inspections, linked corrective workflows or the asset register
How did we compare them?
I ask the same twelve questions on every comparison. For Pilla I describe what the product does today. For Storecall I went back to their live homepage, pricing, free templates, build-my-checklist and compare pages on 23 September 2026. Where they stay quiet, I stay quiet.
I am Liam Jones. I founded Pilla after more than ten years running hospitality operations, food safety and frontline teams. On 23 September 2026 I sat with Storecall's public pages: the homepage, pricing, free templates, build-my-checklist, and their SafetyCulture and GoAudits compare pages. I searched for public API or MCP docs and did not find them. I have not lived in a paid Storecall account for this write-up. I am telling you what their pages say.

Why do people like Pilla?
You open Pilla on the phone you already carry. You see the next step, read how to do it, take the photo or sign, and move on. The record lands while you work. Pilla checks it against the rules you set and follows up when something needs you.
I hear the same thing from managers: they draw the process once and stop asking all day whether it happened. The team likes it because they can see what good looks like before they start.

When does switching from Storecall to Pilla make sense?
- You want Pilla to check the work as it comes in
- You want to draw the process on a canvas and branch it
- You want a photo, a video or a file sitting on the step itself
- You want DMs and group chats next to the work
- You want an MCP server you can call
- You are happy to keep scored audits, linked corrective workflows and assets somewhere else
What do you pay for?
| Capability | Pilla | Storecall |
|---|---|---|
| What you pay for | Unlimited users, usage based on workflows | Per-user ZAR plans; unlimited submissions; all features |
| Public price | Pay as you go is £199 a month for 1,500 processed workflows, then 15p each. Enterprise is from £999 a month. | Starter R2,500/month for up to 10 users (~$154 USD indicative). Growth R249 per user per month (~$15). Enterprise R199 per user per month (~$12). |
| Trial | Talk to us to get started | 30-day free trial, no card. Full platform access. |
Storecall invoices in ZAR. USD figures on their pricing page use an indicative rate (about R16.2 per USD) and can move with the live rate. Every plan includes unlimited submissions and all features, including Nova AI. Higher tiers add priority support, a dedicated account manager and SLA. I have left third-party dollar roundups off this page.
How long does setup take, and how hard is it?
You can open Pilla the same day. Talk to us to get set up. I usually see a first opening or closing workflow take an afternoon. Storecall starts with a 30-day free trial and no card. They will digitise paper or Excel checklists for you. Inspections can go live within a week on their own claim.
If you move, you rebuild the checklists on the canvas. Photos and history stay in Storecall unless you export them by hand. Run both for a while. Keep scored audits, linked corrective workflows and the asset register on Storecall or another vendor. I did not build Pilla to do shift scheduling, payroll or HR.
Does the answer change by budget or size?
If you only need digital lists and you want to try something today, start with Pilla. If you run an inspection programme and you need scored audits, linked corrective workflows, assets and ZAR per-user pricing with unlimited submissions, stay with Storecall. If money is tight, we both publish prices. If you want AI in the run and an MCP server, I would pick Pilla even in a small team.
What is each one used for?
Storecall works well for
- Scored field audits with photo, geotag and signature evidence
- Failed items that spawn linked corrective workflows across teams
- Approvals in sequential, parallel or any-order flows
- Recurring inspections on a schedule across locations
- Asset register with maintenance history linked to inspections
- Pivot reporting by location, team or time, plus scheduled inbox reports
- Nova anomaly detection, summaries and conversational Q and A on ops data
- Daily digest emails of pending, overdue and approval work
Pilla works well for
- Opening and closing the team can follow on their phone
- Showing someone how to do a step with writing, a photo or a video
- Collecting photos, video, audio, files and signatures as the work happens
- Letting AI fetch, decide and act while the run is live
- Following up yourself, or letting Pilla follow up
- Talking in DMs and group chats next to the work
- Connecting other software through MCP, API and integrations
- Paying for workflows with as many people as you need
What is Storecall designed to do?
Storecall holds the inspection programme in one place. You prove the check with photos, geotags, signatures and timestamps. You score the visit, fail an item, and spawn a linked corrective workflow with approvals and escalation. You keep an asset register and cut results by location without a spreadsheet. I would stay on Storecall for that audit and linked follow-up stack.
What is Pilla designed to do?
I built Pilla so you can turn the processes you already know into workflows on a canvas. Your team follows them on a phone, tablet or the web app. Pilla checks completed work and handles the follow-up you configured. You keep judgement, coaching and the awkward calls. I left shift scheduling, payroll and HR out on purpose.
What differences actually matter?
How do they check the work?
On Pilla I put AI fetching, decisions and actions in the run. On Storecall auto-scoring, KPI compliance, a failed-item workflow or an approval does the checking. Nova flags anomalies and summarises submissions after capture. I could not find an AI step that fetches, decides or acts inside a running checklist.
How do you design the work?
On Pilla you draw a visual canvas with branching and reuse the workflow. On Storecall you build a template with 21+ field types, including Yes/No scoring, matrices, calculated fields and asset pickers. Recurrence is a schedule. They will digitise paper or Excel checklists for you.
How do you provide guidance?
On Pilla you sit written, photo and video guidance beside each step. On Storecall public pages I could not find a dedicated video-guidance step beside each question.
How does the team talk?
On Pilla you get DMs and group chats, including on a workflow. Storecall sends a daily digest email of pending, overdue and approval work, and approvals arrive with context. I could not find DMs or group chat channels on their public pages.
How do they connect other software?
Pilla publishes an MCP server, a REST API and integrations. Storecall public pages emphasise export, PDF and dashboards. I could not find a public Storecall API or MCP server.
What are you paying for?
On Pilla you pay for processed workflows, with unlimited people, and you talk to us to get set up. Storecall charges per user in ZAR, with unlimited submissions and all features on every plan. They publish a software price.
Which should you pick?
If I ran an inspection programme that needed scored field audits, linked corrective workflows, assets and pivot reporting across locations, I would keep Storecall. That stack is a fair reason to stay. If I wanted the work drawn on a canvas and AI acting inside the run, with DMs and MCP, I would use Pilla, and I would keep the audit product somewhere else.
Frequently asked questions
Does Storecall have AI inside checklists?
Nova AI sits around the data after capture. It flags anomalies across submissions, writes intelligent summaries, answers conversational questions on ops data, and can export a chat as PDF. I could not find an AI step that fetches, decides or acts inside a running checklist the way Pilla does.
Can staff chat in Storecall the way they would in Pilla?
Storecall sends a daily digest email of pending actions, overdue items and approvals waiting for a decision. Approvals arrive with photos, location and history. I could not find DMs or group chat channels on their public pages.
What evidence can a Storecall inspection capture?
Public pages claim 21+ field types, including Yes/No with auto-scoring, photos with timestamps and geotags, digital signatures, item matrices, calculated fields, asset pickers and expected-versus-actual counts. Their SafetyCulture compare page also mentions saving a check on the device offline and submitting when back online. I could not find video or audio as response types on the public pages I opened.
Does Storecall put video guidance beside each step?
I could not find a dedicated video-guidance step beside each question on their public pages.
How much does Storecall cost compared to Pilla?
Storecall charges per user in ZAR. Starter is R2,500 a month for up to 10 users (about $154 USD indicative). Growth is R249 per user per month (about $15). Enterprise is R199 per user per month (about $12) with a dedicated account manager and SLA. Every plan includes unlimited submissions and all features, including Nova AI. They offer a 30-day free trial with no card. I do not charge per person. Pay as you go is £199 a month with 1,500 processed workflows included, then 15p each. Enterprise is from £999 a month. Talk to us to get set up.
Does switching to Pilla replace the Storecall audit product?
No. I did not build Pilla as a scored inspection suite with linked corrective workflows and an asset register. If you need Storecall's audits, approvals, escalation, assets and pivot reporting, keep those on Storecall or another product.
How long does it take to switch from Storecall to Pilla?
You rebuild the checklists on the canvas. A first workflow usually takes an afternoon. Running both side by side can take days or a couple of weeks, depending on how many templates you have. Photos and history stay in Storecall unless you move them by hand.
How did you compare Pilla and Storecall?
I read Storecall public pages on 23 September 2026 and answered the same twelve questions I use on every comparison. I described Pilla as it works today. I left out anything Storecall does not publish.
Where did these facts come from?
Storecall claims on this page come from their own public docs. Pilla claims come from the current product.
